About
SSEMC
Community
Programs
"Owned
by those we serve." It's a phrase that Snapping Shoals
EMC and other co-ops like to use because it reminds us of the special
relationship we have with our consumers.
When
a company is owned by the very people it serves, it has a real stake
in the community. At Snapping Shoals we genuinely care about the
communities in our eight-county service area, because the people
and businesses of those communities are Snapping Shoals EMC.
We
want to have a positive impact on the area we serve, and we understand
that a great way to do this is to help build strong leaders for
tomorrow. Our scholarship program is an excellent example of our
commitment to helping young people. The Snapping
Shoals EMC Scholarships were created to recognize outstanding
students throughout our service area and to help make it possible
for them to continue their education. We also participate in the
Walter Harrison Scholarship program,
a statewide competition administered by Georgia EMC. Education assistance
is offered through our Operation Round Up® program as well.
Operation
Round Up is a program in which Snapping Shoals members can take
great pride. Funded by member donations, it helps families and individuals
with a wide variety of needs. Our members can participate by allowing
their Snapping Shoals bill to be rounded up to the next highest
dollar amount each month. Operation Round Up has been very successful,
proving that small change really can change lives.
Snapping
Shoals´ commitment to the community can be seen in other ways
too. For instance, we work with local school systems to assist with
special projects, such as mentoring and reading programs. We visit
classrooms to provide educational programs on electricity. We provide
presentations on energy topics for community organizations and homeowner
groups. And many of our employees take an active role in various
civic, business and community organizations.
