Operation
Round Up®:
Small Change That Changes Lives
Operation
Round Up was created to help people in need in the areas served
by Snapping Shoals Electric Membership Corporation. It provides
an easy way for Snapping Shoals members to work together to assist
families and individuals who are facing serious short-term or long-term
hardships. A primary goal of Operation Round Up is to provide assistance
in situations where help is not available through other channels.
Each
month the electric bills of participating consumers are rounded
up to the next highest dollar amount, and that extra change, anything
from a penny to 99 cents, goes into the Operation Round Up account.
The average contribution is just 50 cents a month. That may not
seem like a lot, but with a majority of Snapping Shoals members
participating, Operation Round Up is able to do a world of good.
The funds are used to directly help people in need of assistance
or to help qualifying charitable/community organizations with specific
needs that they have. Download an individual/family assistance application or Download an organization/agency assistance application Applications are taken year-round.
Decisions
about the disbursement of funds are made by
the Snapping Shoals Electric Trust Board of Directors. The members
of this group investigate the applications for assistance and meet
every other month to decide how funds will be used. They serve as
volunteers and receive no pay or other compensation for their time
and efforts.
Members
of the Trust Board are Roy Varner, chairman, Newton County; Bobby Miller, vice chairman, Henry County; Carl Smith,
secretary, Rockdale County; Darry Cook, Henry County; Dixon
Hays, Newton County; Deborah Parham, Newton County; Albert Walker, DeKalb County; Don
Garrard, Henry County; Tommy Moseley, Rockdale County; and Ben Mainor, Rockdale County.
