Here
are some helpful tips to remember when a power outage occurs:
- First
check your main electrical panel (breaker/fuse box) to see if
the problem is there. If a breaker has tripped, you will need
to reset it. If a fuse has blown, you will need to replace it.
- If
you do not find a problem in your breaker/fuse box, try checking
with your neighbors to see if they are without power too and if
anyone has already called to report the outage. Once it has been
reported, everyone does not need to call. However, if you can
see that you have an individual problem (such as a tree on the
line to your house) or if the neighbors' power comes back on and
yours does not, you do need to call.
- When
you call, please be as brief as possible. Remember, many others
may be trying to call and our telephone lines are limited.
- Once
someone has reported an outage in your area, please try not to
call repeatedly to check on progress. Repeat calls tie up the
telephone lines, making it more difficult for other callers to
get through. Of course, if you have discovered a hazardous situation
or have information that may be helpful, please do call.
- Please
keep in mind that the major problems must be repaired first. Repairing
the service line to your house will do no good if there is still
a problem with a substation or a main line along the way that
sends the power to you. Be assured that we are doing our best
to restore your service as quickly, safely and efficiently as
possible.
- If
the area is experiencing major, widespread outages, please keep
a battery-powered radio handy and stay tuned to your local radio
station for updates about the situation.
- Stay
well away from any downed power lines, and do not attempt to move
trees or limbs from power lines. Those lines may still be energized!
- Remember,
we care when your power is out and we work hard to get it back
on as quickly as possible. Your patience and cooperation are always
greatly appreciated.
