Surge Protection

A single power surge can seriously damage or completely destroy home equipment in an instant. To help you protect your appliances and electronics from the damage that can be caused by lightning and other types of power surges, Snapping Shoals EMC has a great new surge protection program called Avert.

Avert provides an unbeatable combination of meter-base protection for appliances and point-of-use protection for electronics, all for one low price of $8.99 per month. A three-year surge protection agreement is required, and you must be a Snapping Shoals EMC electric customer to participate in this program.


Meter Base Protection

With the Avert surge protection program, Snapping Shoals EMC will install a meter socket adapter (MSA) at your meter base. The MSA offers a first line of defense during a surge occurrence. Once the MSA has been installed, any electricity that enters your home via your electrical service will first pass through this device. The MSA will protect your large motor-driven appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, heat pumps and air conditioners. There is a $19.99 installation fee for the MSA.

Point-of-Use Protection

In addition to the MSA, the Avert surge protection program includes five plug-in units for you to use inside your home to protect individual electronic devices such as computers, TVs, VCRs, DVD players, audio systems and microwave ovens. These units provide the extra protection needed for sensitive electronic equipment.

Two of the units are eight-plug strips. One of the strips provides protection for a telephone line in addition to the electrical protection, making it perfect for a home office. The other strip, which is just right for an entertainment center, offers coaxial protection (for cable or satellite dish) and a telephone line protector in addition to the electrical protection.

The other three protectors are single-plug cubes. In addition to providing a protected electrical outlet, one also offers coaxial protection, making it ideal for an extra television, and one offers telephone protection, making it great for a cordless phone or answering machine. The one that offers electrical protection only would be perfect for a microwave oven, CD player or other AC-only electronic device.

The manufacturer guarantees protection of all qualifying appliances and electronics covered under the Avert surge protection agreement. A warranty of up to $50,000 per surge occurrence is included. Some exclusions apply. Call us at 770-786-3484 or 770-385-2875 for full details.
